How to maintain your scented candle?

You love your scented candle and, of course, you want to burn it as long as possible.
Here are some tips to help you optimize combustion, therefore the diffusion of the fragrance AND the life of your candle.

  • The first time you burn your candle
A first use too short and it widens. Not only will it not be pretty to look at, the diffusion of the fragrance will not be optimal and you will lose hours of combustion.
THEREFORE, the first "burn" must imperatively be long enough to allow the wax to melt to the edge of the porcelain, a "bath" then forms around the wick. This step, depending on the wax and perfume combinations, takes an average of 1h30.

  • How long can a scented candle burn?

We recommend that you let it burn for at least 1 hour. The diffusion of the perfume depends on the heat, too little time and the diffusion will be limited. If you have company, we therefore recommend that you turn it on 1 hour before their arrival.

At most, between 3 and 4 hours. The 1st reason is that beyond that, the diffusion "saturates", so it will no longer increase in intensity. The 2nd reason, your candle having reached its maximum temperature, it will start to burn more quickly, for nothing.

Depending on the containers, it is not recommended to burn the candle to the end. Some containers may burst with heat.

Our candles are cast in porcelain certified "Porcelaine de Limoges", which means that they are fired at extremely high temperatures, up to 1300 degrees, so there is no risk on that side.

  • Cut the wick before each use

Maintain the wick at a maximum length of 1cm.

This allows on the one hand to control the size of the flame and to avoid the production of soot. This also allows you to control its temperature, and therefore its burning time!

This also prevents the wick from shrinking and bending, it is made of cotton so it is possible, and melts your candle more on one side than the other.

  • How to extinguish your candle?

In order to avoid black smoke, soot and the smell of burning, it is advisable to "suffocate" your candle, either using a snuffer or by covering it to deprive it of oxygen.

This is also a good time to refocus the wick if it has curled.

  • Wait a few minutes for it to cool
We advise you to wait a few minutes before moving your candle. Since the hot wax is liquid, you could burn yourself or simply spill it.

  • While you burn your candle...
Avoid drafts, you never know.
Keep your candle away from flammable materials (curtains, tablecloths, etc.)
Do not leave a burning candle unattended,
Air your rooms regularly.
And of course, keep young children and pets away (the cat's tail!)
